On Saturday, February 26, 2011, The New York Rangers acquired veteran defenseman Bryan McCabe from the Florida Panthers in a deal made two days prior to the NHL trade deadline. In exchange, the Rangers shipped forward Tim Kennedy and a 3rd round draft pick to the Sunshine State.

With McCabe, the Rangers expect to fill a major void on the power play – a puck-moving, hard-shooting blueliner – which should give the Broadway Blueshirts an added extra boost as the regular season winds down. The Saint Catherines, Ontario native has 143 goals and 379 assists in 1,116 career games in the NHL. McCabe has also previously played for the New York Islanders, Vancouver Canucks, Chicago Blackhawks, and the Toronto Maple Leafs. From the backline, McCabe has scored 72 career playoff goals.

According to the New York Rangers website, the 35-year old will be wearing number 28 and should be in the lineup for the team’s next game against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday. McCabe has worn number 24 in the past, but that number is held by fan favorite and alternate captain Ryan Callahan.
