Kamelot is a band formed in 1991 in Tampa, Florida. Their musical style has been labelled as progressive, symphonic or power metal. As most power metal bands seem to hail from Scandinavia, it is a pleasant surprise to find an extremely talented band in this genre from the USA. They have recently completed a successful tour of Europe.
Early Years
The founding member of the band who is still part of it today is Thomas Youngblood, an excellent guitarist. Drummer Richard Warner formed the band with him, and the band’s debut album, Eternity, was released in 1995. Some changes to the band occurred, with a new drummer, Casey Grillo, and new vocalist Roy Khan in 1997, who collaborated firstly on the album Siege Perilous. They toured Europe with Khan on vocals and wrote a new album, The Fourth Legacy.
Roy Khan
Roy Khan is a Norwegian singer who was formerly with the band Conception. He has a beautiful, clear, soaring voice, giving the band a unique sound. He has also co-written many of Kamelot’s songs. Unfortunately, this very talented young man could not complete the recent tour due to personal illness and in April 2011 he announced he was leaving the band. Italian singer Fabio Lione, formerly of the Italian metal band, Rhapsody, joined the tour and performed very well.
