Not many professional footballers are lucky enough to have two careers in the game; not retiring from playing and then going on to become a manager or physiotherapist, but two different and seperate playing careers.
Carr lifts League Cup
On Sunday Feb. 27, Stephen Carr captained Birmingham City to a 2-1 victory over Arsenal in the Carling Cup Final at Wembley. It was Birmingham's first major honour in 48 years and guarantees European football next season, as they will be participating in the Europa League (UEFA Cup). What makes it a remarkable story was that two seasons ago, at the age of 32, Carr retired from football.
A tough tackling, yet creative fullback, he never pulled out of a challenge and ironically, looked as if he was playing every game as if it was his last. He was quick and attack-minded, liking nothing more than to maraud forward and cross balls into the box. He had an excellent football brain and would never give anything less than 100 percent. He wasn't flashy, nor high profile. He did the basic things well, worked hard and expected his teammates to do the same.
