Coast Guard officials are still searching for 11 men who are missing after the oil rig on which they were working exploded last Wednesday, April 21, 2010. The rig has since sunken and an oil slick has spread about the Gulf of Mexico – 52 miles from the Louisiana cost - where the rig was located.
Officials for the corporation, Transocean, who maintain the oil rig’s license, said that of the 115 people accounted for (out of 126 on board); only 17 were taken away with injury.
